Christmas HOPE - Day 4
1 Peter 2:24 (ESV) - "He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed."
Have you ever thought about the purpose of hanging an ornament on the Christmas tree?
Every year one of my favorite things is to decorate the tree and pull out the old box with various ornaments and position them just right so we can look at them and reflect back on what Jesus has done.
So let me give you an insight on what the ornament means. It is a symbol.
Think of the two colors that represent Christmas - green and red, right?
So GREEN is a symbol. In a previous blog I explained that green is the color of the trees that we use, typically evergreen. Why? Because they are EVER, GREEN. Just like you, your eternity as a believer is EVER, GREEN with Jesus!
The other color is red. So what does red mean? It too is a symbol. It represents blood. It represents the sin that he bore for us that we hang on him, on his tree (the cross).
**Christ is saying, “Just put your sins on me.”
When you feel bound or strained this Christmas, just put your guilt on the tree, your pain, shame, hurt, regret - on the tree. All have sinned and fall short. Jesus knows that. Just hang your sin on him. He took it all and will take it all if you'll hang it on him.
Every time you hang an ornament think about that. Isn't that cool! - IT IS SACRED - You are hanging your sins on Jesus! AND YOU ARE HEALED FROM ALL THAT!!
